“Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia!” The New & Best Path for Health & Diet
You might remember this catch phrase back in 90’s TV infomercials about these small little seeds that are put all around clay pots that are shaped as animals and grow to look like short “grass-like” fur. Well, they’re back! And have been recently discovered to have many health benefits other than being a cheesy home decoration. Chia seeds provide many benefits to ones health and should be in ones diet.

Chia seeds have been around for many years and are native to Mexico and Guatemala. They come from the desert plant SalviaHispanicawhich is part of the mint family. History suggests that Chia seed are dated back in the Mayan and Aztec cultures.  “Chia” means strength, and were a very important food crop for the Mayans and Aztecs because these cultures used the tiny black and white seeds as an energy booster. Now, it still remains in regular use in its native countries, but not as much in the U.S. until researcher Wayne Coates began studying Chia seeds about 29 years ago. Cotes started his research on Chia in 1991, and from his findings he learned that these tiny seeds provide many health benefits. Its still being researched on what other health benefits it can provide as we speak, but so far Chia Seeds have become a big celebrity in health.

Here are 10 reasons why you SHOULD add Chia Seeds to your diet immediately:

  1. Fiber! Lots and Lots of Fiber!
According to recent studies just 28-grams or 1-ounce serving of Chia seeds has 11-grams of dietary fiber. That’s about 1/3 of the recommended daily intake for adults. Getting a good amount of fiber is very important for ones digestive health.

     2. Get your Omega-3!

With nearly 5-grams in a 1-ounce serving, Chia Seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids. These fats promote positive brain health.

     3. Healthy Teeth & Bones!

One serving of Chia Seeds has at least 18% of the recommended daily intake for calcium. This helps prevent osteoporosis, and maintains oral, and bone health.

     4. Manganese Yourself!

One serving of Chia Seeds, 28-grams, has 30% of your recommended intake of Manganese. This nutrient helps your bones and body absorb other nutrients like biotin and thiamin.

     5. Plenty of Phosphorus!

One serving contains 27% of your daily value of phosphorus with the help of Chia Seeds. Phosphorus is used in the body to synthesis proteins for cell and tissue growth and repair.
     6. Don't Forget the Protein!

Hey Vegetarians, meat is not he only one that contains protein, Chia Seed too! One plain serving contains 4.4-grams of protein, which is nearly 10% of the daily value.

     7. Take Away Belly Fat!

Recent studies have shown that Chia's stabilizing effect on blood sugar also fights insulin resistance, which can be tied to a decrease in belly fat.
     8. Get Full. Faster!

Tryptophan, an amino acid found in turkey, is also found in Chia Seeds. This Amino Acid helps regulate appetite, and improve sleep and your mood.

     9. Healthy Heart!

Chia Seeds have been shown to prove to improve blood pressure in diabetics, and it may also increase healthy cholesterol while lowering total, LDL, and triglyceride cholesterol.

     10. Fight Diabetes!

Chia Seeds are being studied as a potential natural treatment for type-2 diabetes because of its ability to slow down digestion.

As we can see, Chia Seeds provide so much health benefits no matter if your young or old! Although some may argue that it's still being researched and not safe, most findings have concluded that Chia Seeds are great, and have no negative outcomes.

Having Chia Sees in your diet can even be a great improvement to your meals. The mild, nutty flavor of Chia Seeds makes them easy to add to foods and beverages. They are most often sprinkled on cereal, sauces, vegetables, rice dishes, or yogurt or mixed into drinks and baked goods. They can also be mixed with water and made into a gel. There are many different ways on how to eat them online. I’ve eaten Chia Seeds before many times in my breakfast cereals, they don’t really have a taste, but I’ve noticed that my energy levels have been more active, and I seem to be more energetic through out the day when I eat them.

So take my word for it, and the next time you want to make a change in your health, pick Chia Seeds because they’re the best and new way to go!
