In a movie I
watched there was four friends all girls. They came from a bad part of town and
all had separate struggles. One with a child, one recently fired from a good
job at a bank for no reason, another had her brother killed, and the last
friend worked little jobs trying to stay afloat.
The live
they lived were no good. The society they lived in has no place for them, and
they are essentially trapped. After being fired the friend suggests that they
should rob the bank, and all being in a bad part of their life it seemed like
their only shot at a better life.
They
successfully robbed a few banks and it wasn’t until they had robbed a good
amount of banks that the police figured out that they were women. Because women
cant do anything, let alone rob banks.
These were
colored women and they are probably labeled as criminals. Once again no one
stop to think as to why they were robbing banks in the first place. There was one part where a character replied
to where she saw herself in ten years and she replied, “I don’t know, and I
don’t care. I’m just trying to get through the day”.
I have
always looked at this quote and thought that is the question that haunts all
people of color. It asks what do you do while being oppressed? You do anything
you can to break that cycle, anything that can help your current situation.
What society does to these people is label them as savages when in all
actuality they are really hardworking people looking for a way out.
The movie
ended with the white leading cop letting all the remaining fourth friend
live. I believe he did this because he
realized that they were not bad people and felt guilty that all of her friends
got killed trying to bring “justice”. This movie that I analyzed was called Set ItOff.
I really like this post because you really had a specific topic you wanted to talk about and I find it interesting, since I've never heard of this movie. I might want to watch it because it seems like it shows a lot about our society for colored people being labeled as criminals.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting post. My last post relates to this because my topic was mainly about women of color being oppressed. I like the fact that you used a specific movie to make your explanation easy to understand or relate to.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this post. i felt you expressed your point and understanding on invisible narratives. i also liked the examples you used.
