-*steps* (ow) *steps* (ow) *steps* (ow) *steps* (ow) "only a few more blocks until I can get home and get these little Sh#!% off of my aching feet."
-"Hey I love your new pumps! Where did you get them?"
-"Oh, hey! Thanks they're Jimmy Choo! I saw Jennifer Lawrence wear the same ones and she looked super sexy in them, so I wanted to get the look and I got them online for $800."
-"Wow they look like they were worth it!"
-"They sure are!" *fake smiles, and walks away*(if only these damn heels weren't killing my feet! Ow!)
High Heels have history of being one of the biggest fashion trends in today's society thanks mostly to the media and fashion industries. Celebrities now a days promote heels as a typical woman foot choice in their everyday lives. Whether it is on a high fashion catwalk, Television/Movies, or on a laid back Friday afternoon. Sure, they do look nice when worn with a nice flowy dress, or even a cute tight pair of jeans. They most of the time even make a woman feel more "feminine" and "pretty" when worn either to a special occasion, or even at their job.
BUT, heels have a dark side to them. On the outside one may notice a pretty, mellow, laid back female not bothered by anything in life when wearing heels, but on the inside RAGE, PAIN, DISCOMFORT are the basic traits to how these females actually feel.
Even celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart hate heels by calling them "Satan's Shoes" or mentioning that heels "limit them." Even super model Cara Delevingne says that she hates heels over everything, and she has to wear them everyday on the job!
Most women don't realize that they're sacrificing their own health in order to "look nice" when wearing high heels. Turns out, high heels are pretty bad for your body!
Studies have shown that high heels misaligned the spine causing lower back pain, they also affect your balance making it likely for you to fall and brake an ankle. Bunions can also form when eating heels for a long period of time. They also increase pressure on the balls of your feet, making it unnatural for your body to have it's normal stance and create more spider veins. You DON'T want that!
I found this article very interesting but I'm having a hard time figuring out how heels causing health problems is an invisible narrative? Maybe looking at it from a different perspective could have helped this piece: women wear heels to fit a social norm, to appeal to men, because they think that's what a woman is 'suppose' to do. Maybe by considering these aspects you could have moved away from surface level issues, and dug a little deeper into the root of the problem.
ReplyDeleteGood read, but I'm not sure where the invisible narrative takes place in your topic. Is it the influence the media has on women or women themselves dealing with the pain just for the appearance. Other than that I enjoyed reading your blog :)
ReplyDeleteGood job on putting this article together. The transitions from all your ideas were smooth. Although, I had a little bit of a hard time figuring out what the invisible narrative you identified from this topic. I think that looking at it from a perspective of what high heels symbolize in determining gender roles would have been interesting. Other than that, I can see you put hard work to speak about your topic.
