This is MY language. This is MY writing. Hear me Dialect?

So in class we be talkin' bout dialects. One activity we did in class was having da whole class move 'round on deciding if they agree o disagree on som statements Caitlin read off to us. Not gonna lie, I thought som of those statements where pretty fuckin' hard to decide on what side one should go to. I saw maself goin mostly in da middle cus I felt that there were hella reasons why it can be disagree and why it can also be agree, but it can never be to one simple side. Come to think of it at the end I really don't fuckin' know or have a fuckin' idea if whether or not dialects should be allowed  n schools. I think its just going to be a great big fuckin' desmadre NOW to tell you da truth.
Okay, Hear me out.

Speakin', or typing(o lo que tu prefieres), like I do now would make som you feel a lil' uncomfortable, right??? (Don't lie to me!) And yeah its okay, I feel those groups of peeps. That's how I feel with readin' som scholarly article, poems, journals, books, and so on especially wen I'm in school.

I feel like da reason why were like dis is cus since we were lil' mocosos we've been taught to write and speak "correctly" according to the U.S Education System, or where ever da fuck they decide how and what to teach kids in America. And from all dos years in grade school, middle school, high school, and maybe even English 114 for som of you, we've been told that this is how one should write, speak, and understand english, da "right way," for many many many MANY fucking years! But is it really? Is it really the "right" way? I'm still pretty iffy about it.

I feel like in today's society using ones dialect makes someone look uneducated especially in the professional world. We would get look down upon professionals, and not be taken seriously. For example, how would you feel if you had a lawyer defending you in a life or death sentence in court, but he was speaking in his dialect.Would you think we would be able to help you in our case? Or would you rather have a lawyer that has a more profound, big worded, academically correct, language use to defend you in front of a judge and jury? I don't know about you, but I'll rathe have the second choice.  And you know why? because thats how society works now.

Speaking, and writing "correctly" will benefit you in your job, in getting a career, in creating relationships, in....... basically everything and everywhere. Even now my own computer is changing my dialect that I'm trying to type as we speak, the "correct way." (thanks spelling check...). It sucks, I know, but it is what it is. So you can't really decide that NOW, we should teach children in schools about using their dialects in their academics. I think we're all ready far off that road. But that's my opinion.

Difference between American Accents and Dialects

Don't get me wrong, dialects ARE important. I use my own with certain types of people in my life. The way, I think, should be done. It's beautiful, its a form of art expressing oneself to the people they truly care about. It allows one to be free of who they really are. That's why I think music is very important of us to have. It allows people to, I guess, feel more connected to the artist when they write their dialect in their lyrics. Same goes on with the movies, cinema. They provide examples that many can relate to, and feel a connection with their own lives and language.  Here's an example of one of my favorite songs that does that :)

So yeah, dialects are importan', but I think it shouldnt' be allowed in schools now. As years passed on fuckin' society has taken it to a different lvl. But thats MY own opinion. Es lo que es, I guesss...

  1. I agree with what you write about your blog. How you experienced learning in class has help you think what your experiences on what teachers. I also liked how you wrote your own dialect and your pictures connects to your essay. Every good and interesting topic.

  2. I totally agree with your point about how dialects are very important, however it should be used to some extent. Also, I like how your graphics illustrate the whole idea of your blog.

  4. I think we should balance our dialect from ours with the common one. I agree that when it comes to job interview and work, we should use a proper dialect. But sometimes we have to show who we really are, and that's when we use our own dialect with our friends and families.
